Boaters, please slow down

The Beaver Dam Lake District is asking boaters to voluntarily slow down during this high water season. “Three reasons for limiting your wake are to protect lake owners’ property, protect our lake, and protect yourself,” said Dave Evenson, president of the Beaver Dam Lake District.

Wake and wave action erode our shorelines. The soil carries nutrients that foster aquatic plant growth. There also are reports of landscaping timbers, logs, and whole dock sections floating in the lake. These items float to the surface and could easily damage a lower unit or boat hull if hit at quick speed.

“We are asking boaters to exhibit common sense and courtesy,” said Evenson. “We don’t have any high water-no wake ordinances or enforcement; we’re just asking you to be responsible.”
