Fundraising and collections have begun for Margaret’s Project Santa. Project Santa is a collaborative community effort which makes sure every Cumberland child in need has gifts for Christmas. The High School Student Council, the Cumberland Elementary, Middle and High School classes, businesses, community service organizations, churches, families and individuals all work together to make this happen. Last year the project was able to give toys and food, as well as warm coats and boots to 216 children.
Without sufficient toys and books, children don’t develop necessary skills, says the National Institute for Early Education Research. Studies also show that infant toys are critical for brain growth that affects learning later in life. Because play is essential for children to lead happy, healthy, and productive lives, all children need at least simple toys like balls, blocks and crayons. With just a simple toy, you can make a world of difference in the life of a child.
The generous donations from the community have always been the key to the success of Project Santa. Checks can be made to “Margaret’s Project Santa” c/o Barb Muench at US Bank, P.O. Box 788, Cumberland, WI 54829.  Unwrapped toys can be dropped off at US Bank, the Cumberland Municipal Utility Office, or the Dollar General Store.  Donations given by December 4th allow time for purchasing and getting the gifts ready. Please note that any donation amount is always welcomed.
Suggested items to donate include new unwrapped toys, art supplies, children’s books-all ages, games for any age including playing cards (“Uno,” “Old Maid,” “Go Fish”), balls, blocks, legos, bubbles, crayons, Word Search/Crossword Puzzle books, coloring books, baby supplies: infant toys/rattles, sound books, “matchbox” cars, batteries (AAA, AA, C, D), footballs, soccer balls, baseballs and bats, basketballs and gift certificates to area stores.
Enrich your own Holiday Season and continue the love, hope and compassion Margaret began.
