Softball team runs record to 5-2

Third baseman Joey Carlson fires to first as pitcher Lauren Green ducks out of the way in the Beavers nice win over Bruce.

The Cumberland Softball Team sat with a 4-2 record as it entered a non-conference game on Monday against Cameron. The team then goes into a busy schedule over the following six days as it plays four Conference games ending with a doubleheader on Saturday in Northwestern.
The Beavers only game last week was an exciting 5-4 win over Bruce on Thursday at Islander Park.
In the contest, Cumberland was able to break a 4-4 tie in the bottom of the sixth inning on a Josie Shadick run scoring single and then held on to the one-run victory.
Pitcher Lauren Green earned the pitching win with a complete gameperformance,  surrendering four runs, three hits, and striking out five. She walked six Bruce hitters.
Greens’ fine game also included three hits at the bat with a pair of singles and an inside the park home run. Shadick had hits in both her at-bats, while catcher Steph Walters had a double. Cumberland stole five bases in the contest including two each by Green and Payton Nyhus.
After a week on the road, including Saturdays 11:00 am doubleheader, Cumberland returns home next Tuesday with a 5:00 pm contest against the Hayward Hurricanes. The Beavers defeated Cameron 8-5  Monday night at Cameron. Details in next weeks Advocate.
