Susan Jungerberg

Susan Jungerberg, 68, of Cumberland, died at Cumberland Care and Rehab Center on November 9, 2017.  Susan was born June 16, 1949, in Watertown, Minnesota, to George and Joyce Yager.  She graduated from Watertown High School and then attended and graduated from Gustavus Adolphus College with majors in psychology and speech.  While at Gustavus she met Bruce Jungerberg and they were married August 7, 1971.  Susan obtained her Master’s degree in school counseling from the University of Wisconsin-Stout in 1975; that was followed by an internship in the Bloomer School District where she was a counselor and freshmen girls basketball coach with a 9-1 win-loss record.
Later Susan worked as a counselor for the Stevens College University Without Walls program, personnel associate at the University of Missouri Medical Center, Social Services Director at Indianhead Hospital in Shell Lake and counselor for Lutheran Social Services.  Susan was named an Outstanding Young Women by the Island City Young Women in 1985.  For many years Sue served on the Cumberland Library Board. Sue was the elementary school counselor at the Gaylord Nelson Education Center in Clear Lake from 1990-2007.  While there she co-founded and developed the Prairie Project, a service learning experience for students. She serviced as President of the Clear Lake teachers union for several years.
Susan was an avid reader and enjoyed spending time at Peter and Annie’s with her friend, Evelyn, as well as traveling with Bruce across the United States and Europe.  Sue enjoyed spending time with her family.
Susan was active at Augustana Lutheran Church where she was involved in many activities including being Vice President of the Church Council, coordinator of Vacation Bible School, adult leader for the youth group, a member of the Call Committee, teaching assistant for the confirmation class, personnel committee member, and funeral luncheon coordinator.  Her church was a big part of her life.
Susan was preceded in death by her parents.  She is survived by her husband Bruce, daughter Elizabeth (Joshua) Braun and grandchildren Laura and Elijah, sisters Judy (David) Harris, Linda (Terry) Melom, brother Don (Richard) Yager as well as several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was held on Monday, November 13, 2017 at Augustana Lutheran Church, Cumberland,  with Rev. Randy Skow-Anderson officiating with burial following in Shell Lake Cemetery
